APPLICATION AND ENROLLMENT

The enrollment process begins with an arranged time to meet the Director and visit the school.  Afterward, parents are required to complete and return the Center’s application along with a non-refundable $400 registration fee before enrollment may be granted.

Forms may be mailed to Abracadabra, 700 Commonwealth Ave. Alexandria, VA  22301, or delivered to the preschool.  Applications will generally be considered in the order in which they were received; however siblings of current Abracadabra children and children of church members are given priority for enrollment.

When capacity enrollment is reached, a waiting list will be established and continued for the current school year.  Children on the waiting list must reapply for the following school year.

If a child withdraws within the school term and desires readmission, he/she must wait until space becomes available and readmittance is at the discretion of the Director.

CLASSROOM PLACEMENT

Children are placed in classes according to age, developmental level and availability of space. We try to keep classes together and move all the children as a group to the next class.  However, sometimes we have children who leave in the summer and we need to do a little shifting to accommodate new children joining us in the summer.  Students are generally enrolled on a first- come, first-served basis.  The director tries to balance classes with an even mix of girls and boys.

TUITION

Tuition for the Munchkin class during the 2008-09 school year is $1,230 per month.  For Wizards and Genies, the amount is $1,085 per month. There is a 10% discount on the oldest child’s tuition fee for families with more than one child enrolled at the center. Beginning in September, 2007, there is a $100 supply fee per child per year, payable by Sept. 1.

Tuition is due on the first school day of the month. Tuition also may be paid bimonthly, on the 1st and the 15th if that is more convenient for your family. If tuition payment is not received by the 15th of the month, a $25 late fee will be charged.  If payment has not been received by the first of the next month, the child may not continue in school until payments are made for the previous and current months.  All payments must be made by check or money order, payable to Abracadabra and left in the designated drop box in the kitchen next to the sign in sheet.  Checks may be mailed to Abracadabra, 700 Commonwealth Ave.  Alexandria, VA  22301.  Payments should never be sent to school with a child or handed to a teacher.  Any matters concerning tuition payment should be addressed to the Director.

A word about Abra teachers— It is important to recognize what a gift the wonderful teachers are to the children and families at Abra. Abracadabra would not be the nurturing and fun place to learn if it were not for Diana, Teresa, Nathalie, Daisy, Ayne, Daisy, Elleni and Freeda They deserve our thanks, our respect and our praise for educating and most importantly, loving our children.
